Business Proposal: Fletcher

This business proposal template was created with Sam Schwartz's marketing needs in mind; a versatile business proposal template that could be used for the engineering, planning, and consulting firm's range of small or large proposals. I designed this template—along with templates for covers, dividers/tabs, and organization charts—in Adobe InDesign to be a powerhouse for the Sam Schwartz marketing department.

Fletcher is pre-loaded with an array of Character, Paragraph, Object, and Table Styles to fit any use case based on years of studying previous business proposals/templates used by the Sam Schwartz marketing department (including some designed by me and some that pre-dated my time at the company).

Fletcher included Character Styles for emphasis; bold, italic, and colored type. Other style options were provided to be used for superscript, hyperlinks, all capitals, and even instances where no breaks in the text were desired.

The Paragraph Styles included in Fletcher were formulated to allow the user to mold this business proposal template to whatever they needed it to be. Base styles for headings and body were provided alongside alternatives. These alternatives allowed text to span a single column or multiple columns, be organized in ordered or unordered lists, or even stylistically morph call-out or pull-out text and quotes to different alignments.

Fletcher also had Object Styles built in to allow the user to easily apply formatting to external text or image frames that dictated the overall look and positioning of those objects. In the above image ("A glimpse into the Fletcher business proposal template"), a couple of the alternate body copy Object Styles included are displayed: The verso uses a 3-on-6 column Object Style while the recto uses a 2-on-6 column Object Style. Also pictured are stylistic options for pull-out text and quotes.

Tables and charts are used frequently in business proposals but, for some users, could be difficult to style directly within InDesign. Fletcher sought to make this process simpler with Cell Styles and Table Styles (to automatically apply Cell Styles). The below images showcase some of the stylized tables and charts included within the business proposal template.

Paragraph and Object Styles were included to provide the user various ways to style placed images and standalone text. Images could be placed in-line with their captions underneath while still maintaining a visible break from the rest of the copy. Alternatively, the user had the option to place images and captions outside of the main body copy text frame. Object Styles would position these elements (and move appropriately, if anchored to the body copy) and apply coordinating Paragraph Styles. Pull-Out Text and Quotes also were given stylistic treatments, and had alternate style options for when more (or less) of an impact was needed.
